Good Friday 10 Miler in Burlington

Postby AlfiefromPickering » Fri Apr 10, 2009 11:01 pm

Hey today I was running this 10 miler race for the 4th year in a row. As usual, this is a very small and cozy race. Casualrunner (he was wearing Robbie-T style shoes) and I were the only two maniacs that participated in this run (unless there was someone else who was not wearing any distinctive maniac clothing).
The weather was cool but nice for running. I met my friend David (not a maniac yet) and as usual I was the centre of attraction of the paparazzi and the women.....

My time was acceptable: 1 hour 19 minutes and 47 seconds. Nonetheless, casualrunner beat me in part because he is in a better shape than I and also because of the Robbie-T styled shoes (I think this was the critical factor!!!!!)

Congrats on a solid race alfie.
That psuedo-bunny guy frightened me.
Love casual runner's strategy of wearing Robbie-T style shoes, that's gotta help.

Congratulations Alfie

Solid result this time; last year your time was 1:23:43 - 4 minutes improvement.

My Adidas Adizero shoes didn't help much this time; my gun result is 1:17:46 compared with 1:17:43 last year (wearing trial running shoes).

It was nice to meet you as usual.

Actually my gun time for 2008 was 1:25:38. So I had an improvement of about 5 1/2 minutes over last year.

Well done Alfie. That's real improvement; looking for big things from you this year!
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Sound like a great race and nice results.

Now go buy yourself some racing flats so you have no excuses next time...
2009 Highlights
Marathon - 2:54:05 (Mar 22 - Tokyo)
Half - 1:20:00 (Apr 26 - Hartwell)
5k - 17:09 (Acura 5k - Jul 19)
800m - 2:16.80 (York U - Jul 28 )

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog

Treadmill training yeah, "minimal" I don't think so. My treadmill training was very intense, including a 21 Kms 3 weeks before ATB and 30 Kms in treadmill just 2 weeks before ATB, including a lot of treadmill uphills.

Good work, Alfie. Another solid race after your great ATB race-not too shabby! :D
Lightning :)

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.
