Look Mom, No Balls! The Joggle-less Sporting Life 10K

Postby The Joggler » Sun May 03, 2009 6:23 pm

Who said no balls, no glory? I left the beanbags at home for the Sporting Life 10K. Knowing I wouldn't get a PB, I just wanted to maintain a good pace and have fun flying down Yonge Street. RunningWild and I had some logistical issues and she crossed the start line three-and-a-half minutes after the gun. I barely made it to the line in time.

My splits were, uh, hmm, let's see, I wasn't wearing a watch and didn't see most of the kilometre markers, so I haven't a clue, but I started out in about 50th place and steadily picked off runners throughout the run, eventually finishing in 22nd position (5th in age group) in 33:24.

Not juggling feels good.

No balls, did you dress funny at least? 22ND place, not too shabby, keep it up and you may snag an age group award some day! Could happen!
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I clicked my heels at the finish -- does that count?

I'm using the next three years to train up for my masters career.

Nice job, Joggler! Like your title too-very amusing.
Lightning :)

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

 well done! Do you feel naked running without the bags?

Does your stride change at all when you have your arms occupied versus being able to pump your arms? I just wonder if you stretch your stride out when the bags aren't in the way.

Note I used the word "bags" because if I used the term "balls" this would sound like a total gutter post...

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog

I was wondering how fast you'd be without having to worry about keeping balls in the air.
Great result, congrats.

Admit it, at some point, did you try to juggle only to realize that you had no balls with you?

Great job!

Nice work- there's nothing wrong with losing the balls once in awhile. ;) That's a very speedy time- wow!
