Justme at the Scotia 1/2

Postby Sandra » Sun Sep 27, 2009 7:34 pm

I didn't think I had it in me today to finish this in under 1:50. The last month and 1/2 my training sucked due to some leg issues and the week before the race I was having some weird stomach issues (no details required there). Anyway I started the race with the 1:50 pace bunny (Rayman), basically to help me keep a decent pace. Once the race started though, I really felt good - legs felt good, stomach issues seemed to have subsided and the whole atmosphere and excitment of the race set in. Basically i just ran on how i felt. I did keep track on my watch as to my pace but didn't worry if one km was way slower or faster than another. It wasnt' until around the 18km mark that i started to feel that real tired feeling. I pushed on and that last 500m was the absolute worst! Each 100 m seemed to take forever. finally at the last 100 m I gave all that I had. In the end I ran a 1:48:24 (chip time). Even though it wasn't a PB - i wasn't excpecting one, and I am very happy with these results.

That last 500m is a nasty little incline that feels like a mountain!
Nice race, and congrats!

Sandra.

Nicely done! I agree, those last 500 meters of a race always seem soooooo long!

Sounds like you ran a really good race. I always find that 18k or so is the point when a half marathon starts to get really hard.

Congrats!
2009 Highlights
Marathon - 2:54:05 (Mar 22 - Tokyo)
Half - 1:20:00 (Apr 26 - Hartwell)
5k - 17:09 (Acura 5k - Jul 19)
800m - 2:16.80 (York U - Jul 28 )

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog

Nice job- the races where you put little pressure on yourself almost always tend to go well!

Nice going Sandra. To post a number like that after a less-than-ideal lead up to the race just proves what a strong runner you are.
