Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
How did you find racing with people you weren't able to train with regularly? Would you do that again, or pick a team of people who live closer together? For the most part it worked okay. Less than ideal but having regular Skype calls and tracking one another's training on AttackPoint helped althou...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
Thanks all for the commiserations. Sometimes, we feel bad for not having "finished." But I am usually proud of what I do accomplish. Like if I run 44 miles but the race is 50, I'm still pretty darn happy with 44 miles. So don't dis yourself. Look at what you did and remember all the experi...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
What a great adventure to read. Sorry about the finish but you accomplished some major stuff. Do they race in the same place each year or does it move around? Yes, after 5-3/4 days of racing, can't help but feel we did some pretty cool stuff - even if it wasn't all the cool stuff we wanted to do. T...

One of the many things I like about ARs. If someone is in trouble, teams just inherently help out because one day/race it could be you...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
Wow, leaves me sad too. Great read and totally in awe of all you guys did accomplish. Sad about the ending though. :( Still coming to grips with it but trying to look at the positives and take away some lessons learned from this - which there were many - and use those so we will finish next time. I...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
Hi Kpore, Very cool read! I'm from the Pontiac too (I live in Petawawa, but my family is all still in the Pontiac). Just out of curiosity, why the kayak paddles? I'm assuming its considered faster but I'm just surprised so I'd be interested in the details. Christine ref Pontiac... Cool! Yes, we use...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
We were about 5km from CP 10 when we see a team walking towards us (Check Point Zero)... strange... they must be lost. We stop and check and they didn’t have map 4 with them and were going by memory to get them from the road out of Valhalla to CP10. Unfortunately they turned left at the end of the r...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
By the time we hauled the filled up canoe out of the water and got to shore, I was getting a bit chilled so pretty much stripped the top layers off and everything on my feet to help dry it all out while we were getting ready for the ‘big trek’ - the saving grace was that it was sunny and fairly warm...

Re: Raid the North Extreme Race Report
surprisingly it was a climb (we figured about 11,000 ft of climb for the total bike leg... more roads that weren’t on the map that were on the ground and vice versa caused a bit of delay. We got to a road that appeared to be the road on the map that we needed to take us to CP 4 but it sort of petere...

Was it tough only have one pole so early in the adventure?
It was a bit of a pain 'being a tripod' but eventually got used to it. More so on the steep downhill sections where I had to switch hands if we were switchbacking.

Raid the North Extreme Race Report
Really late posting but here it goes.... Raid the North Extreme 2011 - a 6-day expedition Adventure Race in the West Kootenays of BC. I have been preparing for this event since last October. Everything I did from that moment until 23 July was to get me ready for this race. This was the only race tha...

Re: Army Run
Got this at work this morning... With two months to go, organizers of the 2011 Canada Army Run – acknowledged by running gurus as “the fastest growing run in Canada” – are ramping up to deliver what is expected to be a sold-out event. The half marathon is 85% sold out and the 5 km is not far behind ...

Nice job, Andy! Sounds like a fun event. You could perhaps enter in some 'boat races' to train for the post-race activities.

PL, I'm at work and bladders are at home. I don't have the same nathan as you. I think the camel bak 70 is what I got. Anyway, it is so much better than the nathan bladder. Thanks, HP! Re:
Forget about racing, forget about clinics, forget about books, forget about it all. The next time you're out for a run on pavement, keep your eyes open for a trail. When you see one, take it. See where it goes. It might only be a couple hundred yards. Don't overthink it. Just turn right and go. +1 ...
