Re: Boston Registration HELP!

No matter what they chose to do and whenever they chose to do it, there will always be some runners who will get an unfair deal. They will have to decide wether they will "hit" in 2012 or 2013 I don't think that they will wait very long, because right now, there are a LOT of unhappy runner...

Re: Boston Registration HELP!

It would be interesting to hear what he thinks would be "fair." Some people consider "first come, first served" to be fair. Other might think that first timers should get an entry, whereas others might think that repeat qualifiers have more entitlement to a spot. I guess we'll h...

Re: Boston Registration HELP!

Well they havent been planning anything yet and these quotes were all from before today. My thinking is that they were waiting to see how it actually unfolded today before they decided if changes would really need to be made. Again this is just my prediction and I never said that my prediction was ...

Re: Boston Registration HELP!

They DO NOT want to shut out people based on whether they run a marathon before or after the registration date or how fast they get on their computer. So tightening the standards is what we'll likely see. I'm not sure I agree. The original point of imposing qualifying standards was to control the s...

Re: Boston Registration HELP!

Totally expected, though. We'll, I guess a whole bunch of races are going to look much less attractive for Boston qualification Not really- they'll still work for the next year. But they will likely change the standards soon. I'm expecting I might have lost my chance to qual with a 4:00 time. My be...

Re: Is it time for women to run faster?

One of the best articles I read about Boston qualiying times was from Amby burfoot in this article. http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/microsite/article/0,8029,s6-239-506-0-13111-0,00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This is the part I found very interesting: But there's a simple way...

Re: Victoria Marathon 10-10-10

I'm happy that you're able to embrace many of the positive things about Sunday's race. When it comes time for an analysis and future planning, don't sell yourself short; much of the training you did this year was rebuilding your base and I think you could probably get ten more minutes by this time ...

Re: Need to improve FAST

Have 3 weeks to half marathon. Weight 190. Last year ran it in 1:51...I want to run it in 1:48. Right now I am running 15 K at a pace that will allow me to finish at 1:50. I plan on loosing 6 lbs next 3 weeks. But need hardcore schedule that will help me make improvements. Have actually 3.5 weeks t...

Re: What it takes... a philosophical rant

It is like the question: which comes first, the chicken or the egg? If you take, say, 3 runners, who have put in the same efforts, the same time and the same running volume during, say a 16-week training period, they will not run the same time in the same race on a given day. There will be differenc...

Or could it be Gerard Coté?

One of the greatest canadian marathon runners (he won Boston 4 times)

This looks very much like him

He was very famous way back when

Re: Nice Guys (and Girls) Finish Last: Globe opinion piece

My 15 year old nephew just fell in love with running last year and started running road races (5K, 2K etc) But my brother is having a really hard time finding arunning club who will coach youngsters. Shool does not provide any Track and field program (and it is a very good school). So he joined an &...

I always find these discussions interesting and lively I made a quick calculation: if el-jeffe trains 20 hours a week (swim bike run), in my book, that is training at "elite level". If I try to "translate" that many hours into running only hours, at a conservative 5 minute pkm pa...
