Sunday September 30th First Annual Wife Carrying Event
Sunday September 30th First Annual Wife Carrying Event
We are pleased to announce our First Annual Wife Carrying Race will be held on Sunday September 30th 2012.
Wife carrying is based in Finnish history. Legend is that in the 1800’s a man named Herkko Rovo-Ronkainen and his band of thieves would steal sacks of food and women from villages, slinging them over their shoulders and running away. It is thought this is how the sport of Wife Carrying evolved.
Sounds barbaric, but it also sounds like a ridiculously good time! The Grand Prize is your wife’s weight in beer!
Some rules and event info:
•Stealing is discouraged; please find a wife of a husband willing to be carried.
•No marriage certificate is required, you may borrow someone’s wife or carry any woman 18 yrs and older.
•If you choose to carry your wife please note we will not be held responsible for divorces!
•We embrace equal opportunity! Women are welcome to find a husband and carry him. Or wife carrying wife, husband carrying husband etc.
•The race course is short (253.5 metres) and has dry obstacles and a water feature. Be prepared to get a little wet!
•We suggest the carried wear a helmet.
•Time trials will determine heats of two, heat winner moves on to next round (subject to change, depending on # of teams)
•Minimum weight of carried is 49 kg or 108 lbs. If the carried weighs less extra weight must be added to the carried (back pack or weight bands please come prepared).
•Only a belt is allowed as equipment for carried to hold onto.
•Registration is $30 and each team member will receive a T shirt.
•COSTUMES / TEAM THEMES ARE ENCOURAGED
This event is sure to be hilarious. Participant costumes and unique carrying methods are encouraged. There will be a BBQ and live music.
Please register in advance, space is limited. Fee can be paid on site when you check in at registration table (10-11 am) Online registration form
Registration check in 10 am. Competition starts at 11 am.

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

This blackbird's mute gonna sing again

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

No thanks! I gained weight this year and I'm afraid I'd hurt JF's back.
Plus, we're not married so we don't qualify.

There's still plenty of time for you to marry before the event!

Marriage to your partner in the race, is not necessarily mandatory, according to the rules, if I recall correctly ......

Remember though- prize is the wife's weight in beer, so a few extra lbs means a few extra bottles of beer!
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

I told the hubby this was my exact plan... his response might have involved some and a few obscenities
Re: Sunday September 30th First Annual Wife Carrying Event
I'm available for any woman to carry me, and that includes the beer mile version.

Omg.
DH would, like, TOTALLY be on board, and it would probably be a great thing for him to train for his fitness test and all.
However, having said that, I swore a LONG time ago never ever ever ever ever to let DH try carrying me again after he gave me a piggyback ride years and years back and dropped me on my head. Seriously, trufax.
And for all you smart@sses out there, it was on grass, so no brain damage was incurred. Really!

Preferred technique shown below, purely for discussion purposes - this couple is the Finnish champ. I think I may love this sport...
