Ottawa Marathon 2013?

Postby phorunner » Fri Sep 28, 2012 6:27 pm

I was thinking of doing this, and checked out the map on the site (http://bit.ly/QlDRoO). I plugged it into google maps (http://bit.ly/SUTx2l) and then tried to find the elevation and this is what I ended up with:

I don't run in the big city enough to comment, but perhaps this might help: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/69156802
From what I can tell, the 2013 proposed map appears to follow the same course.

Looks to me like you'd fall off a couple of cliffs on that route.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but that's pretty much flat. There's only about a 30 m difference between the highest and lowest points. If the course is the same as last year, there are a few rollers, but nothing major. It's not a hilly race.

Yes - the actual course is pretty flat. Your graph's scale makes it look like it has a bunch of steep hills, but it doesn't.

I was kidding- it's just that when you look at that chart, some of the lines are pretty much vertical, so it gives the impression of almost cliff like drops.

Indeed, but i had no concept of scale, so everyone's input was very much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Any locals willing to host?

I LOVE this race -- I will unfortunately not be able to run it next year -- "other plans", but it is a great, fast course -- a few rollers on the Quebec side, but nothing major - very scenic and friendly atmosphere!!
2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler
Oct - Pace Bunny - Toronto Scotia Waterfront
Dec - Reggae Marathon in Jamaica
