What a weekend! I was supposed to run the Detroit Full. We headed to the start line 1.5 hour before the race. Got caught in traffic that wasn't moving at all. I turned on a side street and parked the car. I realized then that I my bib must have been at the hotel. We searched the whole car and I panicked, almost cried, freaked out. It was 6:15 and the race was to start at 7. Not sure what to do. head back to the hotel and start the race late or find the info tent at the start. We walked very fast to the info tent. I was told there was nothing they could do. The border patrol need to see the bib and they couldn't issue me another one ........my only option was the USA only half marathon - no crossing the border. I asked if I could go back to the hotel and start late and he said at that point they would be setting up the finish area The USA only half started at 10:30. I didn't have a good half. It was humid, my stomach felt full and near the end I was hungry. I don't like late races. I also felt like I couldn't catch my breath at the finish (had mild hyper ventilating) My time was 2:01. I got my pb in Sept 1:53. Oh well was glad to have my mom and daughter support me and get away for a night. my question now is I still want to complete the full since I have done the training. I am considering Hamilton on Nov 6. What should I do before then??? I could sneak in a longish run this weekend, taper and then race day???? My last long run was Oct 2 40k slow with no injury or issue, taper, 21k Detroit. Any advice???
Thanks so much!
Lori

Re: Timing of a fall winter marathon
Oh man, that is so disappointing! What a bummer!
I think turning around and doing Hamilton in 3 weeks is a good plan. I'm not sure how much faster your half was than your regular training runs but I'd recommend taking maybe today and tomorrow off, then picking back up a bit and doing a long run this weekend. I think 30 km would be plenty though. You won't need to taper as much for the following two weeks because you're already ramped down from your biggest training.
Good luck!

Thanks for you advice. I will take it easy with slow running and my goal now is just to finish Hamilton. I did have a goal of 4 hours but at this point I don't care. I found the half difficult yesterday. It was humid, stomach was off and I think stress and later start time messed me up
My training runs were around 6:00 and tempo 5:20ish.

Wow, sorry about that!
Scrummy's advice is good. You have a good base and Hamilton is a great idea-- good luck!

ohhh that just is rotten, my full sympathies.
I say do it, you are trained for a full, hopefully the weather will be more runner friendly by November.

That sounds like the kind of dream most of us have in the nights leading up to the race! Except yours was real!

update: I completed the Hamilton full in 4:04:56! I took 10 minutes off my time I don't think I would have pulled that off in Detroit with the humidity. I think I had a good taper and proper nutrition, temps etc.........
