Mouse WINS her age class....
Mouse WINS her age class....
Yep folks the title says it all. I won the Womens 55-59 category in the Linden Woods Fall Classic 2008. Wow!!!! what a surprize, my gosh I was so busy talking to Tim from Roadkill, I almost missed my name, till someone near by said "Mouse you just won your age class" Whoo Hoo!!!
Where to begin, I was standing inside the school gym to stay warm as it was damp, and cool. All of a sudden Lisa and Steve were in front of me. NewFinnlooper told me it was payback for me cheering her on at the Thanks for Giving 1/2 marathon in Winkler on Saturday. Her report should be coming (nudge, nudge)....
Was standing near the door to the school when a man walks by holding up an orange flag chanting 10k,10K. He was the leader to take us to the startline, so like the piped piper us mice(well this mouse anyway) followed him to the startline. Agirl Carol comes up to me and introduced herself to me at the start. She tells me that I've been her inspiration this year, loved my orange shirt. I quickly tell her about runningmania.com. Lets hope she checks us out. As we all know once you lurk once you soon get hooked.
All of a sudden they have us all backing up, then move us all back forward, not sure what that was about, I have trouble hearing in big crowds. The guy then tells us thst the KM markers tell us how much we have remaing, rather than how much we've run. Therefore the first sign we see is the 9KM mark. Wierd, first time I ran a race with it marked this way..... Didn't matter I could still do the math and check my watch each split.
This was a two loop course. On the first loop I see the sign that has 500 meters to go. I turn to the guy running beside me "Too bad that's not for us"...... Then you make a turn and go up this hill with signs telling us it's Bev's Bump. At the top of it just befor you make another turn , you have a piper playing his bag pipes. Being of Scottish decent, this helps me get up the hill very easily. It's at this point that Lisa, and Steve are cheering me on as well. Perfect place to be, can't walk now for sure. At the bottom of the hill as we make another turn is a sign that says 100 meters to go..... I now realize that this is a two loop course, which meand I get to run Bev's bump again... Yay.
My 5km split is 31:17...
This guy and I keep playing leep frog. He's an older gentleman in his 70's. He beat me in the end. Not by much and he came over right away to thank me for keeping such a good pace.
When the time was all said and done, it was 1:03:44. Eleven seconds off my time from the CN Tracks of Glory... It is a much tougher course, so I'm running faster, and definately stronger.... Then the icing on the cake was my First place certificate for my age class......
A hugh Thank you to Lisa and Steve who were there at the finish line cheering me on also.... Not really a nice day to be a spectator... I really enjoyed you extra support. Merci.....
Wow last year I couldn't even run, or be a cheer leader, and this year I win my age class. I'm having trouble getting the grin off my face!!!!!!
