Company's Coming....

Postby Mich » Sat Feb 21, 2009 7:15 pm

What are some recipes you like to serve up to guests. A recipe that you tend to use over again when it is not the same people coming to the dinner party because you like it so much. I know I can look some up on the internet or in a cookbook but I have had alot of hit and miss lately ( I always try them out first before serving to guests). I have had tremendous success at the recipes I have found posted on here. So anyone willing to share their recipes please post them here. Thx. BTW I do not like to spend all day in the kitchen

We don't host that many dinner gatherings, but our favorite thing to serve is homemade pizza (especially if it's a family with kids, but not only). It's so easy-- make enough crust in advance, roll out, and put on sauce, toppings, and cheese of choice. It's a real crowd-pleaser, and kids usually love it.

I also really like this recipe from La:

http://www.runningmania.com/forum2/view ... 286#592286

I will be making it again tonight, but could easily scale it up for guests. It's a keeper. :)

I love to serve Asian Chicken Lettuce wraps. I often bring this when it's a potluck type of dinner. Makes a good appetizer too.
I also like to do a Mexican dinner with Chicken Enchiladas and Beef Burritos.

The Vodka pasta I got from Mayhem is excellent...... I serve it with spicy sausage and shrimp.

We nicknamed it dishrag pasta after one incident where a slightly tispy guest was draining the pasta and "lost control" of it in the sink. We didn't have any other pasta so we ate it

I served Crock pot ribs tonight.......

400F sprinkle ribs with seasoning and bake for 30 min until brown in a roaster.

Line a slow cooker with 2 sliced sweet onions. Put your browned ribs into slow cooker. Pour a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce on said ribs. Cook on low for 5-8 hrs depending on your slow cooker

Fall off the bone delicious.

One of my patients taught me this one so we call it Grace's ribs in her honor.

Will usually do the pizza for my kids and the kids coming but then something different for the adults. Not sure how I missed La's recipe, will have to try that one.

We love ribs, haven't tried it like this before, will give this a go with friends coming at the beginning of March.

Can you share the Vodka Pasta recipe, it sounds interesting.

That is the one! We make it regularly. Very yummy and forgiving ( you can add more or less of some stuff). You can't taste the vodka. I do thicken it a bit with flour and water because I like the sauce to be a bit more "creamy" as opposed to soupy.

I need to try that sometime. I also like this one:

only I used bacon instead of pancetta.

I was going to use the rib recipe for the upcoming weekend when we have friends coming but I couldn't wait that long. They were really good, fall off the bone. When I do them this weekend I am going to try a different sauce. We often use the Kraft brown sugar sauce when we do the ribs in the oven or on the BBQ so I tried that one the first time around.

Thanks for the recipe, the slow cooker makes it super easy to do, put it in and forget about it - great.

I don't like thing that are super sweet..... I use a chilpolte sauce and I add a couple of dashes of liquid smoke along with some garlic - whatever touches your fancy. Slow cookers are pretty forgiving.

I also tried this one when my sister in law came over, it was really good too. Only thing I forgot to do was add the chopped cashews which were there and waiting but I only realized it after.

I am going to try this one some time this week to see if I like it. I'm not an olive fan though but it sounds interesting.

Chicken with feta, sundried tomatoes and olives:

Thanks for the recipes I can now add a few more to my repitoire of ones I really like. Still have to try some of the Rachel Ray stuff, sometimes I like her stuff, sometimes I don't.
